ACPES was formerly called ASEAN Universities Conference on Physical Education and Sport Sciences (AUCPESS) which began in 2011. However on July 8, 2014 during the 4th AUCPESS delegation meeting in Singapore, council members decided to expand and rename AUCPESS as ACPES (ASEAN Council of Physical Education and Sport). This was done in hopes of accommodating more aspirations of different Physical Education and sports communities in response to today’s dynamic world. This conference brought together academic experts and practitioners from South East Asia and beyond to share new knowledge, ideas, and experiences pertaining to Physical Education and Sport.

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) hosted the first ACPES conference in 2015. The 2nd ACPES conference was hosted by MSU-IIT Philippines. This annual conference was subsequently hosted alternately by the ACPES university members.

The ACPES is jointly created with many ASEAN countries to promote communication, interaction, and cooperation among ASEAN physical and sports education professionals and students in educational, scientific, and research institutions and to forge a closer collaboration towards one ASEAN namely Institute of Technical Education – College East (Singapore), Kasetsart University (Thailand), Mahasarakham University (Thailand), Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (Philippines), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand), Universitas Negeri Semarang (Indonesia), Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia (Malaysia), and STOK Bina Guna College Medan (Indonesia). In year 2022, ACPES has acknowledged Universitas Negeri Surabaya dan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia as member.

 

The objectives of ACPES as follows:

  1. To encourage and campaign for a high standard of professional preparation in the field of physical education and sport among the ASEAN countries.
  2. To promote research in the areas of physical education and sport.
  3. To facilitate international exchange among researchers and students
  4. in physical education and sport in the ASEAN region.
  5. To assist young scholars/graduate students in conducting research in physical education and sport.
  6. To establish links with other institutions and organizations involved in physical education and sport.
  7. To organize conferences in the areas of physical education and sport.
  8. To publish resources and literature related to physical education and sport.
