The module serves as an introductory guide for students embarking on dietetics training and a valuable resource for dietitians and clinical instructors tasked with facilitating and preparing students for clinical practice. The primary focus of the module is to enhance understanding and application of nutrition assessment, which is systematically organized into five key domains:
1. Client History
2. Anthropometric Measurements
3. Biochemical Data, Medical Tests, and Procedures
4. Nutrition-Focused Physical Findings
5. Food and Nutrition-Related History
Within the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), the assessment phase holds fundamental importance as the initial step. Nutrition assessment is recognized as a structured and systematic approach to gathering and interpreting data to determine a patient’s nutritional status. This process forms the basis for identifying nutrition-related health issues that require intervention. Comprehensive assessments are essential for the development of an appropriate and effective care plan.
It is hoped that this module will serve as a valuable resource, supporting dietetics students in acquiring the clinical knowledge necessary for their professional development.
